4th Zero
Today (4/19/19) we are taking our 4th zero day, meaning no hiking. We are in Bland, VA at Big Walker Motel organizing our resupply for the next week and waiting for Judy’s sister Sharon to arrive. Sharon is going to hike with us over the next 4 days. We have had a great past week. There was some rain, cold nights with the full moon, even snow one morning and terrific wind one day...Judy fell 3 times but without injury other than pride. The terrain has been either wonderful or super challenging, and often this is one side of the current mountain versus the other! Switchbacks help a lot, but VA doesn’t seem to believe in their use going up...it’s straight up here. Our new tent is working out FANTASTIC. No more middle of the night head kicks! Spring is quickly making itself visible here. The vast forests are combinations of shades of green, reds and blossoms.
